Jayne Tui Schwenke
Jayne paints contemporary realistic interpretations of New Zealand landscapes in oils, on canvas or wood.
She uses the Dunedin, Central Otago, and Mackenzie country environments as inspiration, exploring and highlighting the impressive structure and form of the land, as light and shadows strike across it. She is equally inspired by the vibrant colours of rivers, lakes, ocean, and sky.
She begins to paint from reference photographs and slowly the paintings evolve as she exaggerates key features using line, geometry, definition or colour contrasts. This is Jayne's interpretation of the incredible beauty she sees in our landscape. She paints as a response to the designer of our beautiful world. Psalms have particular meaningfulness to her as she paints.
Jayne began painting in oils through an evening art class in 2000. She has been hooked ever since, through seasons of juggling 3 young children, teaching overseas and now managing a family with teenagers.
Jayne exhibits in the Otago Art Society exhibitions and often places in the top 10 people's choice award.
